This is the final evaluation of the Sand Dams Worldwide (formerly Excellent Development) three-year DFID-funded project that ended in October 2016 which set out to support 20 self-help groups (SHGs) in southeast Kenya to build 62 sand dams.

The report shows how the supported SHGs have achieved much more than participating in the construction of sand dams. It illustrates the organisational structure that has been coordinated and brought together with the efforts of male and female farmers.

It also shows how they have not only maximised the benefits from the improved and sustainable water supplies, but have gone on to improve agricultural production, nutrition and income within their communities.
