Judith Eaton

Chief Operating Officer

Judith joined Sand Dams Worldwide in 2013 as Head of Finance and has managed all finance, governance and support activities of the charity. Five years on Judith is now our Chief Operating Officer providing leadership to the team and supporting all aspects of Sand Dams Worldwide’s work.

Judith has over 25 years experience working in the private sector having worked in public relations, media, hospitality, facilities management and healthcare. Prior to her appointment at Sand Dams Worldwide, Judith worked as Finance and Commercial Services Manager at Geneva Health, a heathcare recruitment specialist. Previous to this, Judith was Financial Controller for Baxter & Platts, a subsidiary of Compass Group.

Alongside leading on all finance and operations at Sand Dams Worldwide, Judith also provides in-country financial and governance support for our overseas partners. She has also led a sand dam expedition and spent time much time with the communities; who she says are “the most rewarding and important part of the job”.

Christine Whinney

Head of Programmes

Christine has 10 years of international development field experience, and a Masters degree in Rural Development. She has managed a variety of programmes in the education, water and sanitation sectors across Africa and India. Christine joined Sand Dams Worldwide in February 2013, as Programmes Manager working primarily with ASDF. In April 2015, Christine’s role expanded to manage all of Sand Dams Worldwide’s programmes when she was promoted to Head of Programmes. Her role also includes developing new programmes, and collaborating with partners to build up Sand Dams Worldwide’s evidence work.

Sophie Wotton

Programmes Manager

Sophie has over seven years of experience in the international development sector. Starting out as a leader for overseas volunteer expeditions Sophie went on to gain a Master’s Degree from the Institute of Development Studies in Sussex and to work on programme design, management and monitoring evaluation and learning with organisations in the UK, Africa and Asia. Sophie has managed a variety of programmes in sectors including education, water sanitation and hygiene and livelihoods development with a particular focus on programmes in East Africa. Sophie joined Sand Dams Worldwide in February 2023 as Programmes Manager, she is responsible for programme management of our key programmes and works closely with our partners on monitoring evaluation and learning. Sarah Joseph

Institutional Fundraising Manager

Sarah joined the team in January 2020 as the Programmes and Fundraising Officer, supporting with the management of Sand Dam Worldwide’s programmes, as well as with fundraising and reporting to our donors. In April 2023 she was promoted to Institutional Fundraising Manager, where she is responsible for managing Sand Dams Worldwide’s Institutional and Small Government fundraising, whilst also continuing to support programme management. Dwain Lucktung

Communications Manager

Dwain previously worked as a freelance journalist and Digital Content Editor for Ctrl.Alt.Shift (Christian Aid's youth political and social issue magazine), writing reports from countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali, before joining Livity (youth engagement agency) as a Senior Content and Community Manager and youth mentor. His passion for international development brought him back to the third sector and he subsequently joined Sand Dams Worldwide in 2016. Since then he has been leading on their communications strategy, as well as curating and creating both online and offline content for Sand Dams Worldwide.

Uilliam Barrow-Retallack

Senior Fundraising Officer

A graduate of the University of Bath, Uilliam joined Sand Dams Worldwide as Fundraising and Admin Assistant in 2018, and was promoted to Senior Fundraising Officer in 2025. He has experience working with small charities to provide support in areas such as administration, communications and fundraising. Spending 6 months as an intern with UNHCR in Geneva encouraged his aspirations toward a career engaged with global issues.     In February 2026, a group of volunteers teamed up with Sand Dams Worldwide, Koy Clothing and our local partner, Africa Sand Dam Foundation to support a community in Kenya to build a sand dam. The sand dam was funded by Koy Clothing and their wonderful customers, and will go on to provide the community with a local lifelong supply of clean water.

    Sand Dams Worldwide is took part in the Big Give’s 2026 Earth Raise campaign (formerly the Green Match Fund), which offered supporters of participating charities the opportunity to have their donations doubled for just seven days. Over £22,000 was raised which will go towards a sand dam project in Tanzania.
