This September, I’ll be travelling to Kenya as part of an expedition with Barclays & Sand Dams Worldwide — a charity that helps communities build simple, sustainable sand dams to provide clean water all year round.

Access to safe water is something many of us take for granted. Yet for millions of people, especially in rural Kenya, daily life revolves around walking long distances to collect unsafe water. Sand dams change that.

A sand dam is a low-cost, long-term solution. Built across seasonal riverbeds, they capture sand during the rainy season. The sand then traps and stores water beneath the surface, protecting it from evaporation and contamination. One dam can provide clean water for up to 1,000 people for decades.

This is a cause that genuinely changes lives — not just today, but for generations.

If you’re able to support, even in a small way, I’d be hugely grateful. Thank you for helping turn dry riverbeds into reliable sources of life. Garry Mcbride
